Building Enclosure
The exterior walls have many different surfaces depending where they are located on the building. Most of the building features brick walls with windows. Most of the roof will be a thermoplastic roof, but there will also be a green roof featured on parts of the building. A curtain wall will be on a wall facing away from the sun.
Sustainability
The Teaching Center is aiming to achieve LEED Silver upon completion. Some of the ways that will be done is by adding a roof top garden, using advanced exhaust systems and saving energy on heating and cooling. The building will also be re-purposing part of an old building that stands on the site.
Building Statistics 2
Architecture
Square Footage: 180,000SF
The Teaching Center is a building that incorporates many uses. Many lecture halls and classrooms are present as well as teaching labs for science purposes. There are three café’s in the building which will serve refreshments to students. Teaching Center will accommodate 2,000 students in multiple classrooms ranging in size from 80 to 320 seats. It is estimated that 10,000 students will use the building every day.
Mechanical
The building will combine units equipped with heat recovery wheels and economizers to heat and cool the classrooms and corridors along with dedicated outdoor air systems for the teaching labs. Chilled water will be provided by a two chillers located in the basement. Hot water and steam will be provided by boilers in the basement.
Structural
The Teaching Center will primarily be a steel- structured building. Different depths of 18-gauge steel decking will be used. All concrete will be cast-in-place and will not be post-tensioned.
Lighting & Electrical
The building will receive 25000A from the utility. It will be distributed through 2 switchgears. Lighting will be controlled by QS Link controllers that control switches and occupancy sensors.
